About Course

Overview

  • The Higher Nationals Health and Social Care originate from a vocational setting and have been designed to enable progression from a vocational route as well as from academic study.
  • The qualifications provide a thorough grounding in the key concepts and practical skills required in the HND Health and Social Care sector. BTEC Higher Nationals offer a strong emphasis on practical skills development alongside the development of requisite knowledge and understanding in the sector.
  • Learners are attracted to these strong vocational programmes of study that meet individual progression needs either into employment or further study for a degree or professional course.

Financial Support

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you may be provided with additional financial support through the maintenance Fund, which can be used to provide financial assistance with travel, course equipment and childcare costs.

Progression Route

HNC and HND program are equivalent of University 1st year and 2nd year. The successful completion of a HND can lead to the 3rd year of an appropriate Topup Degree or an honours degree programme.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • A level 3 qualification, such as BTEC National Diploma in Health & Social Care or other level 3 qualifications related to the sector or GCE Advanced level profile which demonstrates strong performance in the relevant subject or an adequate performance in more than one GCE subject. This profile is likely to be supported by GCSE grades at A* to C.
  • A current enhanced DBS Certificate – should not have a criminal background which might prevent them from working with young people or vulnerable adults.
  • A satisfactory level of Literacy and Numeracy.
  • Pass an initial assessment test (Level 1 in literacy and numeracy with in-depth proficiency in writing is required).

The University fees are payable either from self funding or get support from Student Finance England, eligibility and terms and conditions applies.

Classroom based

HNC is designed for 1 Year full-time.

HNC and HND together are designed for 2 years full-time study.

You must attend the class 15 hours a week.
