About Course


  • The BTEC HNC and HND in Computing programme is run as both a full-time and a part-time option, and provides you with extensive knowledge of computing principles, with particular reference to the analysis, design and implementation of computer applications in a business context.
  • It is designed to enable you to develop systems design skills and programming skills appropriate to business, such as Java, PHP, SQL and the use of Computer-Aided Software Engineering tools. It will provide you with the ability to apply computer concepts and principles to work situations and, with creative thinking, to develop innovative solutions to problems as the next generation of business software developers.
  • The course will also equip you with the essential communication and critical thinking skills to prepare you for progression within the Computing industry.
  • The HNC and HND Computing programme is designed to reflect the increasing need for high quality professional and technical education for students at Levels 4 and 5, thereby providing students with a clear line of sight to employment and to progression to a degree at Level 6.
  • This course is run as both a full-time and a part-time option, and will be delivered with a view to blended teaching; and subject to successful completion of the HNC, there will be an option to progress onto the Higher National Diploma, subject to numbers.

Progression Route

HNC and HND program are equivalent of University 1st year and 2nd year. The successful completion of a HND can lead to the 3rd year of an appropriate Topup Degree or an honours degree programme.


The University fees are payable either from self funding or get support from Student Finance England, eligibility and terms and conditions applies.

Classroom based

HNC is designed for 1 Year full-time.

HNC and HND together are designed for 2 years full-time study.

You must attend the class 15 hours a week.

Completing the assignments, Exams, Presentations.

Financial Support

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you may be provided with additional financial support through the maintenance Fund, which can be used to provide financial assistance with travel, course equipment and childcare costs.


  • To study this course you must be over 18 years old and have four GCSEs including mathematics and English or equivalent and a level 3 qualification or equivalent.
